The rogueware is called Security Shield and a bittorent official noted ”We have completed preliminary testing of the malware. Upon installation, a program called ‘Security Shield” launches and pops up warnings that a virus has been detected. It then prompts a user for payment to remove the virus. ”

The website was only infected between 4:20 a.m. and 6:10 a.m. Pacific time. If you downloaded software within that hour and fifty minutes window then it is likely that you are infected. If not, you should be clean.

In actual fact, hacking a facebook account is actually tremendously easy, it’s quite scary actually. If you have somebody added and have access to their profile information then there is a 99% chance that you will be able to hack it. The group tweeted that airliners had crashed into Ground Zero which is the site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks all those years ago. NBC News managed to remove the messages a few minutes later.

NBC stated that only three people have access to the account and yet “The Script Kiddies” managed to obtain the password and post a total of four messages on the account before they were locked out.

Shortly after getting the account back, NBC News deleted the tweets and then tweeted “Our account is secure and under control. Apologize for the scare. We value your trust.” Later it went on to say, “Thank you for helping spread the word and not sharing bad information.” This could only have been a planned attack for the 10th anniversary.

This has been a plan of mine for quite some time now, to establish a useful source of information that can educate the average web surfer on internet security without using any technical lingo or complex code. I guess I should tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Chris and I am currently 18 years old. I’m a student currently studying Software Engineering and ever since I picked up my first keyboard, I have been interested in computer security.
